Registered Clinical Counsellor

Contact: vanessa@fhlclinics.com

Vanessa obtained her Masters in Counselling at City University of Seattle in 2015 and has professional experience in the clinical setting since 2005. She is passionate in helping people heal from their emotional struggles, especially those struggling with self-esteem and social adjustments, offering tools for them to maintain an emotionally balanced life. Her counselling approach is based on exploring childhood attachment, family relations, and trauma-based events from which unresolved and subconscious issues may contribute to current wellbeing and relationships. She has worked with individuals as young as 3 years of age to mid-60s.

Vanessa offers a variety of therapies through art, play, sensorimotor, cognitive, and personality assessments in addition to individual, couples, and family counselling sessions. Having obtained a bachelor degree in fine art at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, she is creative and uses these different methods of therapy to help clients reach their therapeutic goals as she honours individual differences. She also works as a school counsellor at a private elementary school. Because she sees the family unit as crucial in changing behaviour, she is also experienced with coaching parents on how to improve their relationships with their children and forming secure attachments through their parenting styles.

Vanessa is also certified in Neurotherapy (LENS) and in rhythmic therapy (IM).  She is also registered with ICBC as a vendor and is an EMDR trained therapist who works with individuals suffering from the symptoms following motor vehicle accidents (MVA) and other traumatic experiences. As a first-generation immigrant, she is familiar with cultural issues that may affect current wellbeing and relationships.  Having completed an internship at the Richmond Addictions Services, she is also experienced with working with individuals and families affected by substance use.

Vanessa is a mother of a playful girl and a happy boy; and when her hands are not tied, she enjoys music, crochet, and tea.

Vanessa offers in-person and online counselling services in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
